Szeged, Széchenyi Square – Competition
In 2018, the city of Szeged announced a design competition for the landscape architectural redevelopment of the city’s main square, the Széchenyi Square, located in front of the town hall. Unfortunately, the city administration declared the competition unsuccesfull, and no prizes were awarded. However, among the submitted entries, the jury recognized our design as the most outstanding and awarded it the highest honorary distinction. The proposed landscape architectural plan divided the square into seven distinct spatial units, known as parterres. In front of the town hall, a large paved area was designed to accommodate events and major fairs. Within the paved zone, a decorative pool with a substantial water surface and a raised ornamental lawn area with seating edges were included. The square also featured a café with an adjacent themed playground, and traffic adjustments for the surrounding streets were suggested.
